Former US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for resolving numerous international conflicts through his trade policies, specifically highlighting the role of tariffs. During an address in Huntsville, Alabama, focused on the US Space Command headquarters, Trump presented his tariff strategy as a powerful tool for settling disputes and strengthening the US economy. He contrasted his policies with those of the current administration while extolling the benefits of his approach. Trump emphasized the global importance of the United States, attributing its financial success to tariffs and related trade practices, which he asserted provided him with a significant negotiating advantage.
“I settled seven wars, and numerous of those wars were because of trade,” he stated, emphasizing the role of tariffs in bolstering the US’s negotiating power. He also defended the imposition of 50% tariffs on Indian imports, pointing out what he described as a ‘one-sided’ trade relationship between the two countries. Despite this, he noted the existing amicable relationship between the US and India.
