A lathi charge at Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered a significant response from CM Yogi Adityanath and the state government. The incident, which occurred on Monday and injured students and ABVP activists, has sparked considerable political controversy. State Minister Satish Chandra Sharma visited the injured in the hospital. CM Yogi has ordered the removal of CO Nagar Harshit Chauhan and the transfer of several police officers, including the Kotwali in-charge Ramkishan Rana, along with the police force from the Gadiya police post. Inspector General of Police, Ayodhya Range, Praveen Kumar, is overseeing the investigation into the lathi charge. The Ayodhya Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police have visited the university to examine the situation and collect evidence. During a cabinet meeting, CM Yogi expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident, seeking detailed reports on the degree-related matters from the Ayodhya Commissioner and a comprehensive report on the lathi charge from the IG Ayodhya. IG Praveen Kumar stated that the investigation is underway and that those found responsible would face stringent action. The incident has also fueled significant outrage among ABVP activists and students. Protests were organized in Lucknow. The police intervened, resulting in some activists being detained. The opposition, led by Akhilesh Yadav, has seized upon the incident to criticize the government.
