A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan late on Sunday. The USGS reported the epicenter of the quake to be near Jalalabad, in the Nangarhar province, at a depth of 8 kilometers. Tremors from the earthquake were felt in India, especially in the Delhi-NCR region, and in Pakistan. Local authorities reported that 15 people were injured and subsequently treated at local hospitals. A second earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.5, occurred in the same region about twenty minutes later. Afghanistan is located in a seismically active zone and has experienced multiple earthquakes in the recent past.
