Shubman Gill, India’s recently appointed Test skipper and T20 vice-captain, was unable to participate in the Duleep Trophy 2025 match against East Zone. He was originally slated to captain the team, but his absence resulted in Ankit Kumar leading the side. It was later revealed that Gill’s withdrawal was due to the flu, which kept him confined to his home in Chandigarh. He was advised to rest and focus on recovery, leading to his exclusion from the quarterfinal match. The North Zone team was impacted by his absence, considering his significance to their performance. Gill has since recovered and is now undertaking light training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is scheduled to travel to Dubai shortly to join the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Gill has been selected as the vice-captain for the Asia Cup squad, which will gather in Dubai on September 4, with the tournament starting on September 9. The team’s first match is on September 10 against UAE.
