The visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India on August 18-19, hosted at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval, saw significant strides in the relationship between the two nations. Wang co-chaired the 24th round of talks on the border dispute with Doval on August 19 and held discussions with S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs shared extensive details, encompassing the major agreements reached during Wang Yi’s visit.
Both India and China acknowledged the sustained peace and stability in the border regions since the 23rd round of talks. They agreed on the formation of expert and working groups for consultation and coordination on border affairs, along with activating the border management system at diplomatic and military levels. The upcoming talks are set to take place in China. During the visit, bilateral relations were also discussed during a meeting between Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Wang Yi, and several agreements were reached.
