A retired engineer residing in Noida was victimized by an online credit card fraud, incurring a loss of Rs 9.63 lakh. The incident began when the individual clicked on an online advertisement. Following this action, the engineer’s mobile phone was compromised, and credit card information was stolen. The victim received a call from someone claiming to be from the credit card company. This individual then sent a link via WhatsApp. Upon clicking the link, the victim was prompted to enter details multiple times, allegedly due to technical issues. The police investigation revealed that the cybercriminals obtained access to the victim’s mobile phone and credit card data, leading to multiple transactions.
