A violent confrontation unfolded in Patna, Bihar, on Friday, involving workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party. The clash was triggered by claims of offensive remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an INDIA bloc rally held in Darbhanga. The BJP staged a protest outside the Congress office in Patna, which led to stone-pelting. Nitin Nabin, a Bihar Minister and BJP leader, emphasized that the public would give a strong response to Congress for insulting a mother. Ashutosh, a Congress worker, criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, suggesting government involvement in the clash. Darbhanga Police arrested an individual accused of making abusive statements against PM Modi, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Chaudhary. This followed the emergence of a video online showing the accused using offensive language toward PM Modi during an INDIA bloc event. BJP leaders have criticized the Opposition’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ for the use of derogatory language. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the remarks, considering them an insult to the Indian people. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav also expressed strong disapproval and demanded an apology from the Congress and RJD. The Opposition responded by accusing the BJP of utilizing ‘irrelevant’ issues to distract from the core issues.
