Nahanda village in the Balod district witnessed a troubling incident where a woman, who supports herself by begging, was robbed of 2.54 lakh rupees from her home. The theft occurred while she was away celebrating the Teej festival. An unidentified person took advantage of the vacant house to commit the crime. Deori police have registered a case based on the victim’s report and have launched an investigation.
Amrit Vaishnav, a resident of Nahanda village, shared that she earns her livelihood through begging, as she has no children. She makes a living by begging in various villages. On July 29, 2024, she sold part of her house to Jitendra Patel of the village for 2.50 lakh rupees. Besides this, she had 4,000 rupees earned through begging. She stored this entire sum in a steel container within a trunk in her house, which was secured with two locks.
The woman described that on August 25, 2025, at about 3 pm, she locked her main door and went to celebrate Teej at Home Giri Maharaj’s house in Piparkhar village. Upon returning on August 27 at 4 pm, she found that the main door’s lock was broken. Upon entering, she discovered that both locks of the trunk, along with their latches, were broken, and the 2.50 lakh rupees and the 4,000 rupees in the bag were missing.
Following the event, Amrit Vaishnav notified the nearby residents and the village Kotwar. She then lodged a complaint at the Deori police station. Police in-charge Rakesh Thakur stated that a case has been registered against the unknown thief. The police examined the crime scene and have initiated an investigation.
