A disturbing incident of gang rape has been reported in the Dumka district of Jharkhand. Five individuals have been arrested for the gang rape of a minor girl from the Paharia tribal community. The incident occurred on the Gumra bridge in the Kathikund police station area. The victim was there to meet her boyfriend, who works as a cleaner on a truck. His truck was loaded with coal and was passing through the area when he stopped to meet her. The suspects confronted the couple, questioned their presence, and then assaulted and gang-raped the girl in front of her boyfriend.
The police promptly arrested the five individuals involved and charged them under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of the law. A thorough investigation is currently being conducted, and the victim has been sent for medical examination. This incident follows a similar pattern to an earlier case from March 2024 in Dumka’s Hansdiha area, where a Spanish woman was gang-raped during her world motorcycle tour. The previous incident involved the arrest of eight suspects, raising significant concerns about the safety of women in the region.
