Jharkhand is embarking on a new chapter in its healthcare journey, with a significant decision announced by Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari. The upcoming RIMS-2 hospital will be renamed the ‘Shibu Soren Institute of Medical Sciences’ (SSIMS), a tribute to the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and his commitment to the underprivileged. Dr. Ansari made the announcement at the Jharkhand Assembly. The hospital, planned for Nagri Mouza, will be the largest in Asia, as per the minister. This move is intended to honor Shibu Soren’s contributions to the tribal, Dalit, poor, and farmer communities. The SSIMS is envisioned as a vital healthcare hub not only for Jharkhand but also for the broader Eastern India region, aiming to initiate a health services revolution. The institute will incorporate state-of-the-art healthcare, featuring super-specialty wards and advanced research centers. A key focus will be on providing free and affordable medical care to ensure access for all, especially the economically disadvantaged. The initiative is also designed to create extensive employment opportunities and training programs in the medical sector for Jharkhand’s youth. Dr. Ansari emphasized that the establishment of the SSIMS represents a ‘health revolution’ in Jharkhand, underlining the state government’s dedication to providing quality healthcare for all citizens. The project, spanning over 200 acres of land, has been a subject of discussion since its inception. The announcement comes in the backdrop of discussions within the Jharkhand Assembly regarding the land designated for the construction of RIMS-2, and the context of previous actions.
