Australia has expelled the Iranian ambassador, accusing Iran of involvement in anti-Jewish attacks. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will be designated a terrorist unit. Iran is accused of plotting attacks against Jewish communities in Sydney and Melbourne.
Albanese stated that the attacks on the Louis Continental Kitchen in Sydney on October 20 last year, and the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on December 6 were orchestrated by the Iranian government. He cited intelligence information in support of these claims. Albanese described these actions as efforts to weaken social unity and foster division within Australia.
The decision follows criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who accused Albanese of betraying Israel and abandoning the Australian Jewish community. Netanyahu had stated on August 26 that history would record Albanese as a weak leader.
