Terrorism remains a persistent threat in Pakistan, with militant groups increasingly focusing their attacks on both civilians and the military. Recent terrorist attacks in the northwestern border province of Pakistan resulted in the deaths of at least five security personnel, while 17 others were injured.
The attacks occurred in the region bordering Afghanistan, an area known for its instability and a history of such violence.
**FC Post Under Attack**
In the Hangu district’s Tora Warai area, terrorists attacked a Frontier Constabulary (FC) post late on Sunday night. The attack resulted in the deaths of three FC soldiers, with 17 others injured. Earlier on Sunday, in the Tirah Valley of Khyber district, security forces were engaged in a firefight, resulting in the deaths of two additional security personnel. The rise in these incidents is raising significant questions about security.
**Five Terrorists Killed in Joint Operation**
In a separate incident, a joint operation by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Upper Dir district led to the killing of five terrorists. During this operation, one civilian also lost their life, and seven police officers were injured. The police recovered the body of one terrorist on Sunday night, and four more bodies were found on Monday. The injured police officers have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Search operations are ongoing in the Dobando, Birkot, Salam Kot, and Atrandra areas of Upper Dir to eliminate terrorists.
**Increase in Attacks Near Afghanistan Border**
These incidents have occurred amidst a surge in terrorist attacks across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistan shares a long border with Afghanistan. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank based in Islamabad, indicates that there were 78 terrorist attacks in the country in June, resulting in a total of 175 deaths.
