Authorities have uncovered a significant counterfeit drug operation in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The operation involved the seizure of approximately 24.3 million rupees worth of fake pharmaceuticals. The Special Task Force (STF) and the Drug Department conducted raids on several locations, including Bansal Medical Agency, Hema Medical Store and associated warehouses. Himanshu Agarwal, a pharmaceutical businessman, was arrested and is being investigated.
The investigation revealed that the counterfeit drugs were produced using fake QR codes and fake firms. The medications were sourced from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and then distributed to neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh. The use of Hawala for financial transactions, reveals the organized nature of the criminal activity. Further investigation is underway and more arrests are expected.
