The Jharkhand Assembly commenced its monsoon session with a tribute to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, former Education Minister Ramdas Soren, and other departed leaders. Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahto mentioned the passing of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, School Education Minister Ramdas Soren, and former Governor Satyapal Malik. Mahto noted that the passing of Dishom Guru marked the end of an era. The political, social, and cultural consciousness he instilled in Jharkhand would continue to guide the state’s equitable reconstruction. He mentioned that the demise of Shibu Soren, a former Chief Minister and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, marked the end of an era, but the mass movement associated with him testified to the enduring legacy of Jharkhand. Dishom Guru was not only a major politician but also a flag bearer of Jharkhandi identity and culture. He founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 1972, which later worked for the construction and development of Jharkhand. Understanding his significance requires understanding the broader context of the Jharkhand statehood movement. Mahto added that Dishom Guru advocated for a comprehensive, autonomous, and development-oriented Jharkhand based on Jharkhandi culture, inclusive development, coexistence, and respect for nature. Ramdas Soren, a man of easygoing and social personality, was also remembered. The Assembly honored Group Captain D.K. Parulkar, a hero of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Padma Shri Vinod Kumar Pasayat, a renowned playwright, poet, and lyricist, Satyapal Malik, former Governor of Goa, Bihar, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir and former Rajya Sabha MP, and senior journalist Harinarayan Singh. Tributes were also paid to those who lost their lives due to cloudbursts in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The Speaker then adjourned the proceedings until Monday morning.
