The Election Commission of India is closely monitoring the political landscape in Bihar in anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections. The commission has identified and issued notices to registered, unrecognized political parties, requesting their responses. A deadline has been set for this action.
The Chief Electoral Officer has clarified that the focus is on registered, unrecognized political parties that have not participated in any elections since 2019. Registered parties receive benefits under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The commission intends to issue show-cause notices to these parties and may delist them based on their responses.
The commission has asked the listed political parties to present their cases before the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar by 3 p.m. on September 1st. Supporting evidence is also required for the report to be submitted to the Election Commission of India.
