A serious incident unfolded at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, a prominent institution in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Wednesday night. An MBA student was harassed by an unknown individual who entered the campus. When the student resisted, the assailant attacked her with a blade, causing injury.
The injured student received immediate medical attention at a nursing home. The incident sparked anger among the students, leading to protests that continued despite interventions from the college administration and local authorities.
Students have announced a class boycott for Thursday to protest the attack. They will not attend classes to express their disapproval of the incident. The BIT OP police are actively investigating the case and interviewing the victim to gather information. The attack happened late Wednesday night while the student was on the campus grounds.
The unidentified attacker entered the campus and began harassing the student. When the student resisted, the assailant used a blade, injuring her. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from BIT Mesra to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
BIT Mesra was established in 1955 by industrialist BM Birla. The institution, spanning approximately 780 acres, holds deemed university status from the UGC and has accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation.
On February 15th of this year, President Droupadi Murmu attended the platinum jubilee celebrations of BIT Mesra. She inaugurated an exhibition on the college’s 70-year academic journey and inspected science and technology exhibitions. She also interacted with BIT Mesra students.
