WhatsApp, the messaging application under Meta’s ownership, is set to introduce an AI-powered assistant into its chat functionality. The forthcoming feature, designated as ‘Writing Help,’ is designed to assist users in crafting their messages effectively, correcting grammatical errors, and modifying the overall tone of their messages. This allows for personalization before the messages are dispatched.
Functionality of Writing Help: The feature is presently undergoing testing within WhatsApp Beta (Android). When a user is composing a message, a small pen icon will appear in lieu of the sticker icon. Upon clicking this icon, the message will be transmitted to Meta AI. Meta AI will then present three alternative versions of the message, which could include professional, supportive, humorous, or rephrased text options. Users can select from these options and subsequently edit them if desired. The recipient of the message will be unaware that AI was employed in its generation.
Privacy and Data Safety: Meta has stated that Writing Help will operate using private processing technology. This approach ensures that message requests are encrypted and transmitted through an anonymous pathway, eliminating any direct links to a specific user or source. Additionally, WhatsApp asserts that it does not retain data and will only present AI suggestions when the user affirmatively activates Writing Help.
Target Audience: The feature holds particular utility for individuals seeking to project a professional image in business communications, those wishing to inject humor into their friendly conversations, or those who occasionally find themselves struggling with message composition.
