Dewald Brevis, the young South African batsman, is the talk of the town. He showcased his talent in the three-match T20 series against Australia. Ravi Ashwin mentioned that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may have exceeded their budget to get him for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. CSK responded and said Brevis was acquired at his base price of 75 lakh rupees. Ravi Ashwin has since provided his viewpoint.
Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel, “I prefer concentrating on my game rather than engaging in social media discussions. We use YouTube to express ourselves. Those who watch our videos get the full picture, while others may misinterpret our words. Today’s news is often based on a single headline or comment.”
He added, “With Brevis’s current batting form, Chennai Super Kings has made a great signing. It was a smart decision to include him in the team. He’s batting aggressively and hitting long shots. Dewald Brevis can be very dangerous against spinners.”
In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings recruited the young player as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. He went unsold in the mega auction that season. However, Chennai gave him a spot in the team mid-season. The batsman scored 225 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 180 and an average of 37.50, with two half-centuries, his top score being 57.
In the recent three-match T20 series between Australia and South Africa, Dewald Brevis was the highest run-scorer. He scored 180 runs in three matches, with an average of 90. This included a century and a half-century. Brevis’s highest score in the series was 125.
