Following the recent Kishtwar cloudburst, Jammu and Kashmir faces yet another disaster. A cloudburst struck the Kathua district during the night of August 16 and 17. The incident has led to the loss of at least four lives, with six individuals also reported injured. The torrential rains caused extensive damage, including the destruction of homes in the Ghati area, which were buried under debris and floodwater. The Jammu–Pathankot National Highway has also been affected. Rescue operations are currently in progress.
Local authorities are actively involved in managing the crisis. The civilian administration, along with military and paramilitary units, have begun relief and rescue operations. Continuous monitoring of the situation is underway to assess the extent of the impact and provide necessary aid.
