The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has revealed the squads for the white-ball series against South Africa and the T20I matches against Ireland. England will host South Africa for 3 ODIs and 3 T20 matches. The ODI series will start on September 2 at Headingley. Following this, England will travel to Ireland for a 3-match T20 series. The ECB has announced a new captain for the Ireland series.
21-Year-Old to Captain in Ireland
For the South Africa series, England will field a full-strength squad, with Harry Brook as captain. The squad includes Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root. All-format players will be rested for the Ireland tour. Jacob Bethell will captain the team for the Ireland series. This is the first time 21-year-old Jacob Bethell has been named captain of the England team. Jacob Bethell will become the youngest captain of the England men’s team in any international match when he leads the team in Dublin.
All Test players except Bethell are rested for the T20 series against Ireland. Marcus Trescothick will be the head coach. Luke Wright, a selector for the England men’s team, said that Jacob Bethell’s leadership has impressed and the Ireland series provides a chance to hone his skills on the international stage.
