Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has temporarily relocated from Ranchi to his ancestral village, Nemra, in the Ramgarh district. He is currently immersed in fulfilling his familial obligations and observing the traditional rituals following the death of his father, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Shibu Soren passed away on August 4th while receiving treatment at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
Since his father’s passing, Hemant Soren, the middle son, has been actively participating in the customary rites and rituals. He is diligently following the traditions associated with the final ceremonies. During the Dashkarma ceremony on August 15th, Chief Minister Hemant Soren shaved his head and beard, in the presence of family and villagers, demonstrating his adherence to the established customs. The focus has now shifted to the preparations for the ‘sanskar bhoj,’ or memorial feast, scheduled for August 16th.
The final rituals are being conducted in accordance with traditional customs and local practices, with the support of relatives, friends, and villagers who have traveled to Nemra, Shibu Soren’s ancestral village. Chief Minister Hemant Soren is personally overseeing the arrangements in Nemra. He has instructed the relevant officials to ensure that the necessary provisions, including transportation, clean water, meals, medical support, security, and lodging, are available for all visitors. The administration has also initiated a cleanliness drive in the village and its surrounding areas to guarantee a smooth experience for those attending the memorial activities.
To ensure convenience for all attendees, over 300 e-rickshaws will be available to transport people from the parking areas to the event venue. Three large parking areas have been established, each with bio-toilets. Covered sheds, rest areas, and separate pandals have also been set up along the paths to offer shelter from the elements for those walking.
Three large pandals have been constructed to facilitate food service, with the capacity to accommodate thousands of guests simultaneously. The menu will feature local cuisine and traditional offerings. A large team of volunteers and chefs will be working to maintain hygiene and provide efficient service.
A police control room has been set up in Dhumkudiya to manage security and traffic. The security detail comprises 10 IPS officers, 60 DSPs, 65 inspectors, and approximately 2,500 police personnel. The district administration is maintaining a high state of alert. Teams of police, administrators, and volunteers will be active 24/7 to manage traffic, emergency services, and crowd control.
A special exhibition and memory gallery are being prepared to showcase the life, political contributions, role in uplifting the tribal community, and public service of the late former CM. The exhibition will feature rare photographs, historical documents, and achievements from his time in office.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, among other dignitaries, are expected to attend the memorial feast. Also expected are the Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, UP’s Minister of Tribal Welfare Sanjeev Kumar Gond, and representatives from various states, including Bihar, Punjab, Bengal, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Members of the Jharkhand cabinet, numerous MLAs, and senior officials are anticipated to be present. A helipad has been constructed for VIP guests arriving in Nemra village.
