Amidst heightened security measures in Delhi in the run-up to Independence Day, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the stray dog case. The hearing follows protests relating to the court’s previous orders. Chief Justice Gavai has constituted a bench of three judges to hear the case, including Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria. The earlier bench, composed of Justices Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan, had ordered that dogs be captured and moved to shelter homes. The Supreme Court will also be hearing the SIR case today. The court clarified yesterday that the SIR initiative is not against voters and requested that Bihar not be defamed. The court has said that only 11 documents are valid within the SIR framework. Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer is set to withdraw a plea filed on Thursday where a threat to the Congress leader’s life was claimed. President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation on the eve of Independence Day. Refresh the page for up-to-the-minute updates.
