South African cricketer Dewald Brevis is rapidly becoming a household name in the world of cricket, celebrated for his outstanding talent and potential. He recently made history by becoming the youngest South African batter to score a T20I century. This accomplishment was achieved in Darwin, where he scored 125 runs off just 56 balls against Australia during the second T20I. Born on April 29, 2003, Brevis has been involved in cricket from a young age. His talent first came to light during the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he topped the run-scoring charts. This stellar performance led to him being signed by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL. His batting style has earned him the nickname “Baby AB,” in reference to AB de Villiers. Brevis’s impressive performance continued in October 2022, when he scored 162 runs off just 57 balls in a domestic T20 match for the Titans, setting a new record for the highest T20 score in South Africa. He has also made his presence felt in global T20 leagues like the Caribbean Premier League, T20 Blast, and Major League Cricket. Despite a slow start in his T20I debut against Australia, where he managed only five runs in his first two appearances, his potential was evident. Brevis was the third-highest run-scorer in the 2023-24 One-Day Cup and played a key role in MI Cape Town’s SA20 title victory, scoring 573 runs at an average of 47.75, including two centuries. In the recent T20I against Australia, Brevis’s unbeaten 125-run innings in Darwin demonstrated his explosive batting skills. This performance made him the youngest South African batter to achieve a T20I century, surpassing Richard Levi’s record. His century was also the second-fastest by a South African batter, reached in just 41 balls. Brevis was also brought in as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh in the IPL 2025 season.
