Kawasaki has announced a significant price reduction for the KLX 230 in India. The price has been reduced by ₹1.30 lakh, resulting in an ex-showroom price of ₹1.99 lakh. Previously, the motorcycle was priced at ₹3.33 lakh. This makes the KLX 230 a more competitive option in the off-road segment, posing a direct challenge to the Hero Xpulse 200.
The price cut is a direct result of the KLX 230 being manufactured in India by Kawasaki. The manufacturer has confirmed that the motorcycle’s mechanical specifications and features have remained consistent.
The ‘Made in India’ Kawasaki KLX 230 maintains its telescopic front suspension and monoshock rear suspension, offering travel capacities of approximately 240mm and 250mm, respectively. The motorcycle utilizes a 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, contributing to a ground clearance of 265mm. The KLX 230 comes with disc brakes on both wheels and features a 7.6-liter fuel tank.
The motorcycle is equipped with an older-style, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The 233cc engine, paired with a 6-speed gearbox, produces 18 bhp and 18 Nm of torque. The combination of the engine, the KLX 230’s 136 kg weight, and the long-travel suspension make it a capable off-roader.
The primary competition for the Kawasaki KLX 230 in India is the Hero Xpulse 200. The Xpulse 200, priced at ₹1.75 lakh ex-showroom, offers a similar setup, including long-travel suspension at both ends, providing 210mm travel at the front and 205mm at the rear. It also features the same 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, a high fender, a sleek design, and disc brakes on both ends, with dual-channel ABS.
The Xpulse 200 features a 200cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 24 bhp and 21 Nm of torque, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. While the Xpulse 200 has more power than the KLX 230, it is also relatively heavier, weighing 170 kg, which is considerably more than the KLX.
