Tesla is accelerating its expansion in India’s electric vehicle market by opening a second retail center. The new Tesla Experience Centre is slated to open on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, catering to customers in the National Capital Region, a key market for electric vehicles in India. The upcoming Delhi location closely follows the opening of the first showroom in Mumbai on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall. The Mumbai launch was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who encouraged Tesla to consider setting up R&D and manufacturing units in the state. The Aerocity center is in the final stages of construction, with a monthly rent estimated at around Rs 25 lakh. Pre-opening visuals of the new outlet have surfaced on social media, showcasing the brand’s premium image. Currently, the Model Y is the only model offered in India, with prices beginning at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y offers two configurations: a Standard rear-wheel drive version, featuring a 60 kWh battery with a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and a Long-range rear-wheel drive version, equipped with a 75 kWh battery, offering up to 622 km of range. Vehicle deliveries are being prioritized for customers in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with vehicles delivered directly to homes via flat-bed trucks. Tesla has also updated its website, enabling vehicle registration across all states and union territories in India, expanding its operational reach. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is listed on the website as an optional upgrade, priced at Rs 6 lakh, although it is set for a later rollout in India. The launch of the Model Y also marks the debut of Tesla’s India website, indicating the company’s commitment to growth in the Indian market, despite the challenges surrounding EV policies and infrastructure.
