President Zelensky of Ukraine has strongly condemned the planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, vowing that Ukraine will not surrender any territory. This response comes in light of reports suggesting that the meeting could involve discussions about a potential territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky has made it clear that any agreement made without Ukraine’s participation would be unacceptable. He argues that such a decision would actively undermine the cause of peace, and would be ineffective from the start. Zelensky insisted that decisions against Ukraine will also be decisions against peace and will achieve nothing. He called for a true peace that is respected by all parties.
Regarding the meeting location, Zelensky noted the distance from the conflict, which is occurring on Ukrainian soil. He asserted that the war cannot be resolved without Ukrainian involvement, accusing Putin of misjudging the Ukrainian people, and emphasizing their strength and ability to defend themselves.
Zelensky also noted that even those who initially supported Russia have aligned themselves with Ukraine because they knew Putin was wrong, and that Russia should not be rewarded for its aggression. He stated that Russia must end the war. Zelensky also affirmed that Ukraine follows its constitution.
