A disturbing incident has occurred in the Rohtas district of Bihar, where a temple priest has been accused of murdering the Mahant. The alleged crime took place early Friday morning, with the priest reportedly using a stone to attack the Mahant. The suspect, Subhash Chaubey from Bahera village, is believed to have locked other individuals within the temple before escaping.
The incident took place at the Vijay Raghav Temple in the Gandhi Nagar area. According to those present, the Mahant, Shyam Narayan Ji Maharaj, was on his way down from the roof to collect milk when the priest attacked him. Despite being transported to a hospital, the Mahant’s injuries proved fatal.
The temple is currently under renovation, and materials from the construction site were reportedly used in the assault. A number of other monks and devotees were present during the incident. The police were notified, and they have taken possession of the body and initiated a post-mortem examination.
Local sources confirmed the Mahant sustained serious injuries to his head, resulting in extensive bleeding. The priest, who is now the main suspect, had reportedly been requesting leave from the Mahant, which was denied. An argument arose over an advance payment the priest had received, with the Mahant demanding its return and instructing the priest to depart. It is believed this disagreement, combined with the denied leave, escalated into violence. The police are actively searching for the accused.
