Suleiman Al-Obaid, 41, was the number one player for the Palestinian National Football Team. He was in line waiting for aid in southern Gaza on August 6th when he was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Al-Obaid was considered one of the greatest footballers of all time and was nicknamed ‘Palestinian Football’s Pele.’ He scored over 100 goals during his career.
Al-Obaid made his debut for the National Team during the 2007 West Asian Championship against Iraq and represented Palestine in major tournaments including the Asian Cup, Pan Arab Games, and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He played his last match for the national team in 2013 against Qatar. He played for clubs such as Khidmat Al-Shatiya, Shabab Al-Amari, and Gaza Sport. Between 2016 and 2018, he won the Golden Boot in the Gaza Strip Premier League for three consecutive seasons, scoring more than 100 goals in his career.
