Following the end of Bashar al-Assad’s rule in December 2024, hopes for a new beginning in Syria were high. However, a recent report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights presents a sobering reality.
According to the report, between December 8, 2024, and August 6, 2025, approximately 9,889 people died in Syria. This loss of life is a result of ongoing violence, the actions of various factions, and a general lack of safety. The report states that most of the victims were civilians. The report also highlights the suppression of truth and justice in many cases, and the detention of thousands without trial, pointing to an ongoing crisis.
