Political tensions are escalating in Bihar as the state approaches the 2025 Assembly elections. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Electoral Roll has become a focal point, with allegations of irregularities. Concerns have been raised regarding the inclusion of deceased individuals and the omission of living citizens. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, has alleged that his name is absent from the draft voter list. He mentioned filling out the enumeration form during the special revision of electoral rolls. Janata Dal (United) responded, accusing Tejashwi of misleading the public on the voter list issue. Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi stated, “My name is not there in the electoral roll. How will I contest the elections?” He also claimed that his information wasn’t found in the system even after providing his EPIC number. The Patna district administration clarified that Tejashwi’s name is indeed registered, although his polling station and serial number have been modified. Tejashwi questioned the extent of these changes, suggesting a possible conspiracy to remove voters’ names. JDU’s chief spokesperson, Neeraj Kumar, called Tejashwi a “political fraud.” The Election Commission immediately refuted this statement and clarified that Tejashwi’s name is listed in the draft electoral roll. The ongoing situation is intensifying the already heated political climate. The draft electoral roll has been released, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll is a distinctive voter list verification process currently underway in Bihar as the state prepares for its upcoming polls this year.
