A vigilance team in Khagaria district, Bihar, arrested a female ASI and a चौकीदार while they were accepting a bribe. The ASI had solicited the bribe from a victim to expedite the investigation and filing of the charge sheet in a specific case. The victim chose to report the bribe demand to the vigilance office. The vigilance team subsequently launched a covert operation, resulting in the apprehension of both individuals involved in the corruption.
The case originated from a complaint filed by the wife of Anil Kumar Shah, residing in Rajazan village within the jurisdiction of the Nagar police station in Khagaria district, relating to a bank loan. ASI Seema Kumari was responsible for investigating the case. The officer initially demanded ₹10,000, which was later increased to ₹20,000, to facilitate the investigation and the filing of the charge sheet. Veeru Paswan, a चौकीदार, was also implicated in the bribery. The victim, Mamta Devi, informed her husband, Anil Shah, about the situation.
Anil Shah promptly notified the vigilance team about the incident. Following an investigation under the direction of DSP Arunoday Pandey, the ASI and the चौकीदार were arrested on Tuesday at the Nagar police station. The vigilance team had already positioned itself at the police station, and the arrests occurred as soon as Mamta Devi handed over the ₹20,000.
The vigilance team has transported the accused to Patna for further investigation and interrogation. DSP Arunoday Pandey confirmed that ASI Seema, the investigating officer, had demanded a bribe to speed up the investigation and the filing of the charge sheet in a bank-related case. Anil Shah of Khagaria filed a complaint with the vigilance team, which led to the arrest of the two individuals while they were accepting the ₹20,000 bribe.
The DSP of the vigilance team revealed that the initial complaint alleged a demand of ₹10,000, but the investigation uncovered that the actual amount requested was ₹20,000. The vigilance operation has had a positive impact on curbing corruption and has created a sense of shock within the police department.
