Mahindra is working on a new pickup truck designed to directly rival the Toyota Hilux and the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Although Mahindra has experience in the pickup truck market, it has yet to achieve significant sales in this segment. Two years ago, Mahindra showcased a global pickup truck concept based on the Scorpio-N platform. Now, a test model has been observed on Indian roads. The truck’s length is a key characteristic, exceeding 5.50 meters, making it longer than the Hilux and V-Cross. The test model shows several unique design elements compared to the Scorpio-N. It will be offered in single and dual cab configurations, with the prototype being a single cab version. The front section differs from the Scorpio-N SUV with a mesh grille and halogen headlights. The bonnet is retained from the Scorpio-N, but the sides are subtly curved. The prototype is equipped with 18-inch steel wheels, indicating that it might be a lower or mid-spec model. The original concept featured all-terrain tires, but the test model is equipped with standard road tires. The vehicle will share the ladder-on-frame chassis of the Scorpio-N, with modified suspension to accommodate heavier loads. The interior, including the dashboard and other features, will largely be inspired by the Scorpio-N design.
