The Mumbai magistrate court has issued a notice to actress Rhea Chakraborty after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted its closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI’s report, filed in March 2025, indicated that no criminal evidence was found against those initially accused. This notice is a standard procedural step, enabling the complainant to challenge the investigating agency’s decision to close the case.
During the hearing, Magistrate R. D. Chavan instructed the issuance of a notice to the “original informant / victim / aggrieved person.” The hearing was adjourned until Rhea had received the notice, with a response deadline of August 12. This directive is a part of due process, providing the complainant with a formal opportunity to contest the decision to close the investigation.
Rhea Chakraborty previously lodged a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, and Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram, alleging their involvement in procuring prescription medication for Sushant without proper medical oversight.
Rhea asserted that Sushant had bipolar disorder, and he would sometimes stop taking his medication. She also claimed that Sushant’s sister ordered medication via text messages using fake prescriptions. Her FIR invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sushant was discovered dead in his Mumbai home on June 14, 2020. The incident generated significant media coverage and prompted multiple parallel investigations. Sushant’s father filed a separate FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of abetting suicide and financial exploitation, which Rhea has consistently denied.
The CBI took over the investigation from the Mumbai and Bihar police and has concluded that there is no evidence of any criminal activity. The court will review the matter following Chakraborty’s response to the notice.
