The Election Commission of India (ECI) has completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar, unveiling significant changes in voter demographics across the state’s 38 districts. The revision process has led to considerable alterations in the number of registered voters.
According to the SIR data, the state has recorded a decrease in the total number of voters, with the updated figure standing at 72,405,756, down from 78,969,844. The revision identified 22.34 lakh deceased voters, 36.28 lakh voters who had relocated or could not be located, and 7.01 lakh voters registered in multiple places. The ECI has opened a window for claims and objections to the draft voter list, with the final list set to be released on September 1st.
Several key districts have seen notable changes. Patna district experienced a decrease of nearly 4 lakh voters. Saran district observed a reduction of over 2.7 lakh voters. Districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Purnia, Vaishali, and Samastipur also registered decreases in the number of voters. The draft voter list includes detailed information from 90,817 polling booths, covering all 243 constituencies of Bihar.
