In a bid to compete with major telecom operators like Jio, Vi, and Airtel, BSNL has introduced the ‘Azadi ka Plan’ to mark Independence Day. This plan is available for just Re. 1 and includes data, calls, SMS, and a free SIM card. It’s designed to attract users to experience BSNL’s services.
The company shared details of the plan on X, highlighting that it provides true digital freedom. The Rs. 1 plan offers customers 2GB of high-speed data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. This plan has a 30-day validity, but it’s crucial to note that the offer is only valid from August 1st to August 31st. Customers must take advantage of this limited-time offer before the end date.
To subscribe, customers can visit a BSNL customer service center or a local retailer. The offer is available throughout August, coinciding with Independence Day. While Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have not yet matched this offer, they may launch similar plans in the future.
According to recent data from TRAI, BSNL’s wireless subscriber count decreased by 305,766 as of June 30, 2025, bringing the total user base to 90,464,244, with 29,822,407 subscribers in rural areas.
