Planning a trip to Mussoorie? Be aware that the Uttarakhand Tourism Department has implemented a mandatory online registration requirement for all visitors. This decision, prompted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), is intended to protect Mussoorie’s environment and better manage the influx of tourists.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the registration system is designed to prioritize the convenience and safety of tourists, with various provisions being made. The system aims to monitor tourist numbers, ease traffic, and protect the natural beauty of the region.
Mussoorie, a highly visited hill station, has experienced overcrowding in recent years, leading to traffic jams and putting pressure on local resources. Therefore, the administration has introduced a digital registration system, similar to the Chardham Yatra, to improve management of tourist arrivals. Tourists are required to register on the official website before their trip, providing details such as name, contact details, travel dates, and vehicle registration. A unique QR code will be generated and used for verification at various points.
The benefits of this registration include real-time assessment of tourist numbers, better traffic and parking management, environmental protection, and improved city planning. Although some hoteliers have voiced concerns, officials believe this step is crucial for the sustainable and balanced development of Mussoorie. Plan ahead, register online, and help preserve the beauty of the ‘Queen of Hills’.
