In a significant development, the NIA court acquitted all the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh and Lt Col. Purohit, on July 31, 2025. This decision came after a long legal battle of 17 years. Sadhvi Pragya, expressing her reaction to the acquittal, mentioned that the case had caused significant disruption to her life. She stated, “Bhagwa has won.” The former BJP MP alleged a conspiracy to defame the ‘Bhagwa.’
She explained that she had been arrested and subjected to torture during the investigation, which had a detrimental impact on her life. Pragya, who was living a life of a sage, felt that she had been falsely accused and was alone in her ordeal. She further stated, “They defamed Bhagwa through a conspiracy. Today, Bhagwa has won, and Hindutva has won, and God will punish those who are guilty.” The court also announced compensation for the victims, awarding Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. While the prosecution proved the Malegaon blast, it failed to establish the link between the bomb and the motorcycle. The court found that the number of injured was incorrect and that medical certificates were manipulated.
