A province-wide indefinite strike by Naib Tehsildars has commenced in Chhattisgarh today, stemming from their list of 17 demands. Yesterday, over 500 Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars held a demonstration at the Tuta Dharna Sthal. The Tehsildar Association is adamant that work will not be resumed until all required resources are provided. This strike action follows unresolved issues and the association’s commitment to their demands.
The core demands encompass: staffing each tehsil adequately with computer operators, peons, patwaris, and revenue inspectors; ensuring transparency in Deputy Collector promotions, maintaining a 50:50 direct recruitment/promotion ratio; granting Naib Tehsildars gazetted officer status; improving the grade pay of Tehsildars; supplying government vehicles and drivers to all tehsils; ensuring swift reinstatement after suspensions, with investigations completed within 15 days; excluding judicial matters from public complaints; adhering to the Judge Protection Act 1985 to prevent FIRs on court orders; creating distinct arrangements for court-related work separate from protocol duties; allowing Tehsildars the authority to hire staff through outsourcing; appointing trained operators for technical roles in initiatives such as the Swamitva scheme, land records, and e-courts; reappointing SLR and ASLR; providing government mobile numbers to safeguard personal number privacy; offering security guards and field vehicles to each tehsil; establishing clear guidelines for immediate compensation in road accidents; securing government recognition for the association to aid in negotiations and problem-solving; and establishing an expert committee to reform revenue courts.
