This incident is part of a larger trend of food safety concerns. The Rameshwaram Cafe has been in the news before, including an IED explosion. In late 2024, food safety issues made headlines again with a passenger in Jaipur discovering a cockroach. Parallel incidents at Jaipur airport including a dead mouse in chocolate syrup. Similar incidents included an insect in a Burger King burger. Separately, a Shiv Sena MLA, Sanjay Gaikwad, publicly criticized food quality at the Akashwani canteen in Mumbai and faced a response from staff members. The state’s FDA took action, temporarily suspending the license of Ajanta Caterers, who were in charge of managing the canteen, following his concerns.
