The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested YSR Congress Party MP PV Mithun Reddy, representing Rajampet, on Saturday. This action followed extensive questioning concerning the multi-crore liquor scam. Following the arrest, SIT officials notified Mr. Reddy’s family. This arrest was anticipated after the Supreme Court had rejected his anticipatory bail request on July 18. The total number of individuals arrested in this case is now 12.
The investigation alleges that Mithun Reddy played a key role in the scam, misappropriating funds collected from distillery companies along with other accused individuals. On Saturday, during his second appearance before the SIT, he was questioned on several matters, including establishing new distillery businesses, collecting commissions from liquor traders, depositing money into his companies, and his relationships with co-accused persons. Mr. Reddy has refuted the charges, asserting the case is politically motivated and that he has been wrongly implicated. He stated his intention to legally challenge the accusations. Earlier in the day, YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy arrived in Vijayawada and appeared before the SIT, providing his testimony in connection with the case involving the recently arrested Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa. In response to these developments, the YSRCP accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of misusing his power and targeting leaders close to party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
