Ahead of the Bihar elections in 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has implemented a new strategy: offering free electricity to domestic consumers. This new measure will provide up to 125 units of electricity at no cost, starting from the July 2025 billing cycle. The initiative is expected to benefit around 1.67 crore families throughout Bihar. The Chief Minister shared the details of the plan via social media, reinforcing the government’s dedication to providing accessible electricity. The scheme also entails a plan for the installation of solar power plants, with support from the government over the next three years. This will eliminate electricity costs for many domestic consumers and potentially generate up to 10,000 megawatts of solar energy within three years. Elections for the Bihar Legislative Assembly, which includes all 243 constituencies, are scheduled for late 2025. The political alliances in Bihar have recently changed, with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) currently allied with the BJP, after previously being aligned with the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan.
