The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has expressed significant concern over the preliminary findings and public discussion surrounding the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad. The FIP is dissatisfied with the absence of pilot representatives in the investigation and objects to the public presentation of the preliminary report. According to the FIP, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB)’s report lacks comprehensive data and inappropriately uses paraphrased cockpit voice recordings to imply pilot error and question the flight crew’s competence. The federation has urged stakeholders, including media and authorities, to avoid disseminating incomplete accounts and unsubstantiated claims, stressing the importance of facts and due process in aviation safety. The AAIB report indicates that both engines were moved to “cutoff,” resulting in fuel supply being cut off. The report notes a cockpit voice recording where one pilot questioned the other about the cutoff, which the other pilot denied performing. The crash of the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 in Ahmedabad resulted in 260 fatalities.
