The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was disrupted due to a protest by Congress MLAs concerning the scarcity of fertilizers and seeds in the state. The opposition party filed an adjournment motion to bring the issue to the forefront. The Leader of Opposition, Dr. Charandas Mahant, initiated the discussion, expressing concerns about the unavailability of fertilizers and the high prices farmers were being charged. He alleged that the government’s actions were causing a fertilizer shortage, which was affecting the agricultural sector.
Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister, expressed his support for the discussion, highlighting the severity of the situation. Umesh Patel, a former minister, also spoke about the issue, emphasizing the farmers’ concerns regarding the lack of DAP fertilizers. The Assembly Speaker, Dr. Raman Singh, sought clarification from the Agriculture Minister. The Agriculture Minister, Ram Vichar Netam, countered the opposition’s claims, stating that there was no shortage of fertilizers or seeds. This statement led to Congress MLAs protesting and entering the well of the House, which ultimately resulted in their suspension.
