Chhattisgarh’s government has introduced a new policy making it possible for vehicle owners to reuse their old vehicle’s preferred or custom registration numbers on new vehicles. The announcement came from a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan.
Officials, including Transport Secretary S. Prakash and Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar, have confirmed that the technical setup for this system is ready. Those who have legally cancelled the registration of their old vehicles can use the same number on a new vehicle of the same category or on a vehicle with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from another state.
To use the service, vehicle owners need to pay a specified fee online. This feature applies to regular (non-fancy) numbers as well. This applies to new vehicles or those transferred from other states, but not to vehicles already registered in Chhattisgarh.
This move is important because it gives people the chance to keep their favorite numbers, which can be linked to personal or professional identification. It also aims to improve the transparency and technical capabilities of the transport department. Vehicle owners across the state will benefit from this new system, which also simplifies number reservation procedures.
