Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun his first-ever visit to Namibia, arriving in Windhoek on Wednesday morning. This marks a significant moment as it’s only the third Prime Ministerial visit from India to Namibia. The visit is a State Visit, undertaken at the invitation of Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. PM Modi was welcomed with a ceremonial reception at Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted the visit’s importance in strengthening the multifaceted and historical relationship between India and Namibia. The Prime Minister’s agenda includes bilateral discussions with President Nandi-Ndaitwah, paying respects to the late Dr. Sam Nujoma, and addressing the Namibian Parliament.
Before arriving in Namibia, PM Modi concluded a State visit to Brazil, where he participated in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro and held bilateral talks with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. During the Brazil visit, he was awarded the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross. The Namibia visit concludes his five-nation tour, which included stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Brazil.
