A devastating incident at the CCL Karma Project in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand resulted in the death of four individuals and injuries to six others. The tragedy unfolded when villagers were illegally mining coal at the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) Karma Project in Kuju. The collapse of a coal seam caused the fatalities and injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased have been identified as Imtiyaz, Rameswar Manjhi, Wakil Karmali, and Nirmal Munda. The victims were involved in unauthorized coal extraction when the incident occurred.
Local residents are holding the CCL management accountable, alleging negligence. They claim that the accident was a result of the absence of proper security measures like fencing, allowing easy access to the mine. They are also accusing the management of violating safety protocols established by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
Following the accident, rescue operations have begun. JCB machines are being used to clear the debris and reach any trapped individuals. There are concerns that more people may still be trapped in the mine.
