The Russian-backed governor of the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine has asserted that the territory is now fully under Russian control, declaring it ‘100 percent liberated.’ This announcement signifies the first instance where Russia claims complete control over one of the four regions it annexed. Leonid Pasechnik made the announcement after receiving a report confirming full liberation. Luhansk was annexed in 2022. While Pasechnik has made this declaration, reports from military sources reveal that two villages are still not controlled by Russia. Moreover, there is no confirmation on whether the village in the Dnipropetrovsk region is under Russian control. The United States has paused the delivery of some promised weapons to Ukraine due to concerns about stockpiles. The Pentagon continues to examine its approach to supporting Ukraine in this war.
