As the US House of Representatives prepares to vote on Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ the former President has expressed his dissatisfaction with Republicans for their resistance to the bill’s progress. After a procedural vote, Republicans succeeded in advancing the tax cut and spending bill by a margin of 219-213. Trump took to social media to express his anger and warn of the consequences of the internal divisions.
On Truth Social, Trump criticized the Republicans, highlighting the tax cuts. He questioned the Republicans’ strategy, saying the ‘MAGA’ movement was unhappy and that their actions could hurt their votes.
The House voted 219-213 to advance the bill for debate before a final vote, after a lengthy delay. GOP leaders had to overcome opposition to the Senate’s revisions, as reported by CBS News. The former President has set a deadline for the bill.
On Thursday morning, a handful of House Republicans had voted against the rule, enough to potentially fail the vote. However, the vote remained open. Republicans were only able to afford a small number of defections if all members were present and voting.
House Republican leaders wanted to quickly pass the bill, which includes more spending on border security, defense, and energy production, and it extends tax cuts. However, it includes significant cuts to health care and nutrition programs, according to CBS News.
Some House Republicans were not happy with changes made by the Senate, CBS News reported. Potential holdouts, including moderates and members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, met with Trump on Wednesday.
