A delegation of leaders from 11 political parties, united under the INDIA bloc, met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to register their strong disapproval of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The opposition leaders argued that the revision process was a direct assault on the fundamental structure of the Constitution. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a Congress leader, questioned the timing of the SIR, citing the proximity to the Assembly elections. He also highlighted the potential for manipulation and the risk of disenfranchising voters. RJD MP Manoj Jha called the SIR a “conspiracy” and raised concerns about the lack of required documentation among the populace. CPI General Secretary D Raja emphasized the difficulties posed by potential floods and heavy rains in Bihar. The Election Commission, in response, stated that the concerns raised by the party representatives were addressed and the SIR was being conducted in accordance with legal provisions.
