Japan has executed Takahiro Shiraishi, a man convicted of murdering nine people after contacting them through social media. The killings occurred in 2017 in his apartment in Zama. Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki approved the execution, citing the convict’s selfish motivations and the impact of the crimes. The execution comes after a gap of nearly three years and is the first under the current administration. Death row inmates are notified of their execution only hours before. There are 105 inmates on death row in Japan.
